Here at Legere's Auto Body we still take pride in our work!
Since 1990, Len Legere, Sr. has been enjoying the fruits of his labor, taking home one award after another on the ISCA Championship Series trail. Three times, Legere has been National Champion in the custom category. For three consecutive years, he's also been named second overall (nationally). Other honors include the Custom Sweepstakes, and Best Custom awards, among others.
Although this isn't the latest creation to hit the circuit, it makes a strong statement for creativity, design, and execution. What started life as a 1971 Javelin is now a rolling business card for the talents of the craftsmen involved. One look will tell there isn't much that hasn't been done to the body, it's been chopped, channeled, sectioned, tweaked, and peaked! Well known Northeast race car builder Chick Brignolo is responsible for the chassis, which features a combination of square and round tubing.

Len's Javelin has more detail, more motor, and more “pipe music” than lots of custom rods. Engine wiring is either hard-lined or hidden, spark plug wires are routed through the tops of the valve covers and exit below. Oh yeah, that's genuine 24-carat gold plating!
There's plenty of detail to be found inside too, from Len's hand-formed dash to the hard-formed interior by Scotts Auto Upholstery of Louisville

The paint is almost another story in itself. Metalflake Corporation, pioneers of the custom color movement, welcomed Mr. Legere with open arms. They were more than happy to supply whatever materials he needed, from primer to basecoats, colorcoat and clear. Len, Jr. (the painter), is pretty secretive about his choice of Metalflake products. He tells us he used Candy Hot Pink over “various basecoats.” “Jr.” is also responsible for applying the De Von Henchel-designed graphics, using four different Metalflake-brand basecoats.
The whole idea behind the effort was to build a contemporary custom using state-of-the-art-components. As you can see, that's a done deal! Items that are more commonly found on today's high-tech street rods have helped turn this custom rod into a real show stopper.
